New mosquito infection data and dry weather have pushed our estimates of risk below average for this week. Although there is evidence of transmission, it appears that the WNV season is getting off to a slow start. Whether this will remain the case depends on future environmental conditions, so the situation could easily reverse itself. Mosquito control is still necessary, because even average years represent considerable numbers of human cases.
